FixASB achieves Cyber Essentials certification
We’re pleased to announce that FixASB has achieved Cyber Essentials certification, marking an important step in our commitment to keeping our systems and the information entrusted to us secure.
Cyber Essentials is a UK Government-backed certification scheme designed to help organisations protect themselves against the most common forms of cyber attack. Achieving certification requires organisations to demonstrate that appropriate technical controls are in place across areas including secure configuration, access control, firewalls, security updates and protection against malware.
For FixASB, strong cyber security is particularly important.
Our aim is to make it easier for people to record persistent anti-social behaviour, build a clearer picture of its impact and help ensure that problems affecting communities receive the attention they deserve. In doing so, people need to be able to have confidence in the technology behind the service and in the way information is handled.
Cyber Essentials provides an independently assessed baseline for that work.
The certification covers practical measures intended to reduce the risk posed by some of the most common cyber threats, including ensuring that systems and software are appropriately maintained, limiting administrative access and protecting devices and services from unauthorised access.
Achieving Cyber Essentials is not the end of our work on security. Cyber security requires continuous attention as technology, threats and the FixASB service itself develop. We will continue to review and strengthen our technical controls, policies and processes as the platform grows.
It also forms part of our wider work to build FixASB as a service which can be trusted not only by members of the public, but by the organisations responsible for tackling anti-social behaviour.
As FixASB develops, we want to make it easier for residents, businesses, local authorities, police forces and other organisations to work from a stronger shared evidence base about persistent problems in public places. Building that infrastructure responsibly means taking security and data protection seriously from the outset.
Achieving Cyber Essentials certification is an important first step in demonstrating that commitment - and in giving our users, partners and public bodies greater confidence in the systems behind FixASB.
