On Sunday 11 October, people across Britain will be getting out into their communities to tackle some of the everyday problems that too often make our public spaces feel neglected.

Looking for Growth and Clean Up Britain’s National Day of Action will bring together individuals and community groups to take on litter, graffiti, neglected road signs, and other problems in the places where they live. The idea is deliberately simple: local people know their neighbourhoods, know what needs attention and can make a visible difference by acting together.

FixASB is proud to be supporting the initiative.

Our contribution will be to help show that action as it happens, with a real-time map of clean-ups taking place around the country - and promoting the day of action via our new 'Get Involved' directory and listings.

That matters because one of the biggest challenges with improving the public realm is making collective action visible.

A single person picking litter from a verge might seem like a small act. So might a group cleaning graffiti from a shutter, clearing vegetation from an obscured road sign or tackling a persistent fly-tip.

But put hundreds of those actions on a map and a different picture emerges: communities across Britain deciding that decline and neglect are not inevitable.

The National Day of Action is based on precisely that principle. Participants can tell organisers where they are, whether they are taking part individually or as a group, and what they would like to tackle. Events are then brought together on a national map so that others can see what is happening and get involved.

That approach fits closely with what we are trying to achieve through FixASB.

FixASB was built to help people report and share persistent anti-social behaviour and problems in public and shared spaces. Too often, issues such as fly-tipping, vandalism, public drug use, nuisance behaviour or persistent disorder are experienced by many people but treated as isolated incidents.

Making those problems visible can help demonstrate their true scale.

But FixASB is not only about identifying problems. It is also about helping demonstrate where people are solving them.

That is why we are particularly pleased to support the National Day of Action on Sunday 11 October 2026.

Clean, orderly and well-maintained public spaces matter. They affect how safe people feel, whether businesses want to invest, whether residents take pride in their neighbourhood and whether others feel encouraged to look after the space around them.

The National Day of Action is about far more than collecting rubbish.

It is a demonstration of what can happen when people refuse to accept that deterioration is simply something they have to live with.

We hope FixASB’s map can help capture that effort, connect it together and show the cumulative impact of individual acts of civic responsibility.

Britain can be safer, cleaner and more prosperous - and sometimes making that happen starts with people deciding to improve the street, park, towpath or neighbourhood right in front of them.
